Sponsored Bike Ride 15th august 2010 - 18 miles from Consett to Cox Green in aid of Club funds. Many thanks for all you hardy souls that took part. Particular mentions to: Liam and his Dad (for cycling all those extra miles from their home to the pick-up point and back afterwards), to Albert (first time on a bike for many years and with the cycle sores to prove it) and to young Evan,(his gears stuck in lowest gear so he ended up having to pedal all the way like fury!)

Part of the Opening Ceremony entertainment - a fantastic event which went on for nearly 4 hours, using diabled and able bodied performers - world class!

Special Olympics Leicester 2009 - our squad pictured outside Walker Stadium before heading off for the opening ceremony of the games. The friend 'nosing in' was one of the amazing street entertainers taking part in the ceremony.
Red Nose Day 2009 - in support of the Comic Relief event, a collection was made at the Club and £60 was raised for the charity. An attempt was made at building a human pyramid (see home page), fortunately the kids judo skills are much better than their acrobatic skills, as we failed miserably - but it was good fun! Some of the students (including Robert, right) insisted on retaining their Red Noses for the rest of the session.

The beautiful town of Sarnano in Italy - 2 km from the camping site where we stayed and joined with our friends from Narabi Dojo at their annual summer training stage.
After a hard mornings workout at the Sarnano Summer camp in Italy (July 2008 - well it was 28c + and we had just left Newcastle the day before at around 15c). Still, there's always the swimming pool before the afternoon session!
Still ready to party after a hard day on the mat - don't they clean up nice! Everyone had a great time over in italy. Well done everyone for working so hard and mixing so well with our Italian hosts - you were all a credit to your families and to the Club.

Disability Awards event - Riverside Suite of the Durham County Cricket Club. The Club was proud to be nominated again for Club of the Year award for our work as an inclusion Club (we won in 2006). No awards this time, but a lovely afternoon with some great people (and a great buffet!).

Kick Cancer 2008 Martial Arts event - A great day, with a wide variety of martial arts on offer to try out. With the hall split into 4 areas (2 for juniors and 2 for seniors) and a changing programme every 30 / 40 mins, it was a great opportunity for everyone to 'have a go'. Indications are we raised around £1000 on the day for Cancer Research - well done everyone who took part.

23rd - 30th June 2007 Summer training camp, Sarnano, Italy. Warm up before our first session (a bit pointless perhaps given that it was already over 30 degs outside and it was only 9.30am!) - this is definitely the way to do Judo - outside in the fresh air, under canvas.

March 2007 - The Sunderland Wall - Steven Lorraine inching his way up one of the starter walls - they all vary in height and complexity.
The Wall !!! - reputedly the highest indoor climbing wall in Europe! For scale, the figure you can just see, in the white T shirt, on the orange section, of the wall to the right of the barrel wall, is a full grown adult climber. Nedless to say, we didn't get anyhere near attempting this beast!!
Area grading - February 2007 - 38 of our students took part in this event. Well done to all of you in achieving your new grades. Particular mention to Jack Slassor and Catherine Martin on their new Senior 3rd Kyu grades. Also to young Katelyn (pictured) on her Dan grade!? (I've heard of fast-tracking but this is ridiculous - Sensei - by the way, anyone seen my belt?)

18th - 21st November 2005. St.Nicholaas competition, Heerle, Holland - Our youngest competitor,Thomas, being presented with his bronze trophy by St. Nicholaas himself (note: not to be confused with Santa Claus, St, Nicholaas comes from Spain and travels to Holland with his Black Nights by boat every year. He then travels the country giving out sweets to children until December 5th, when the children wake up to find special treats placed in their shoes and St Nicholaas returns to Spain).
Halloween fun night - standing room only on the bouncy castle. A treat for the primaries for working so hard during our October week training course.
A winning team - our team from the BJC (MAC) Home International at Norwich. 2 Golds, 3 Silvers and 4 Bronzes, plus a hard earned Silver for Andrew Scott of Kai Kan Judo Club who travelled down with us - a pleasure to have you with us Andrew. Norwich highly recommended by the adults for a night out - the place was heaving on Saturday night!

Saturday 30th July 2005 - The Galleries Shopping Centre, Washington. Demonstrating breakfalls to an appreciative audience. 10 of our younger students took part in a Judo demonstration to help raise funds for our trip to Holland later this year. We raised £107.62 on the day.

Monday 25th June - Sensei John A displays the new regulation judo Gi for our female judoka. Actually Sensei kindly came in his old Coldstream Guard uniform (it still fits!) to show the students during our fun night before we break for the summer holidays. June 12th 2003 - Andrew Stephenson and Daniel Pickering presented with the Gold medal for their Nage-No-Kata by Angela Brown, 4th Dan. The Kata medals complement the individual Golds won in their own weight categories. Well done lads.
Our team for the Junior National Championships, held at Hereford, May 2003. We came back with a Gold and two Bronzes. Well done everyone, particularly to our younger members, for whom this was their first big National competition. They aquitted themselves remarkably well and should be proud of themselves.
